Klong Muang is a quiet, deserted beach without amenities, somewhat removed from Ao Nang. There’s a small village here but it has very little to offer; for a pharmacy or bank you’ll need to travel to Ao Nang. To be honest, for pretty much everything else too.
However, there are several expensive beach resorts here where mostly pensioners and families with children holiday. The sea near the beach is shallow and very convenient for children to swim in.
Beach Overview
The beach consists of two parts – southern and northern with a small island right next to the shore in the middle. To the northwest, the beach ends with a pier. Further north is Tab Kaek beach. The southern part of the beach is completely deserted.
Swimming
The sand on the beach is light with a yellow tint. The entry into the sea is very gradual with shallow water near the shore; you need to walk several dozen feet to reach depth. Additionally, this beach has significant low tides during which the water recedes far into the sea, revealing stones on the seabed ranging from tiny pebbles to large boulders.
These are scattered here and there and aren’t sharp, being half-buried in sand, so they don’t pose any danger when swimming. You can also walk along the shore and look for spots where the entrance to the sea is practically stone-free.
Overall, the beach is very suitable for children’s swimming. Both the seawater and sand are clean here. Since several expensive resorts are located on the beach, it’s well-maintained and kept free of rubbish.
Sunbeds and Shade
Along the beach grow palms in some places, broad-leaved tropical trees in others and there’s also a strip of tall casuarina trees. These trees resemble conifers and provide good shade during the day. There are no amenities on the beach, just a couple of beach cafΓ©s with bamboo chairs in the shade of trees.
Since there are no sunbeds with umbrellas for hire, holidaymakers will have to use the natural shade of trees. Guests of beachfront hotels can of course sunbathe on hotel sunbeds with umbrellas which are usually placed a bit back from the beach.

Amenities
There’s no nightlife on the beach nor any particular infrastructure. Just a couple of small shops, a few cafΓ©s on the beach and in the village, a couple of travel agencies and massage parlours. One of the most pleasant spots on the beach is a small beach cafΓ© called Sunset Bar.
Mind you, resorts in Thailand develop at lightning speed so perhaps soon the beach will have standard tourist infrastructure with a full range of entertainment. But then this place would lose its charm as a quiet village beach without crowds. There is motorbike rental and a cash machine.
Accommodation
Among the expensive resorts on the beach, the following are worth mentioning first:
- Sea Sun Bungalows 2
- Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort – Sha Extra Plus 5
- Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & SPA Resort 5
- Bliss Resort Krabi 3
But I wouldn’t advise staying on the right part of the beach. In my view, both the beach is worse there and there’s a road running along the beach where cars drive by, kicking up dust. In the left part of the beach, on the contrary, there’s complete peace and quiet – after all, that’s what people come here for.
Finding monthly rentals here is very difficult with few options. There’s literally one condominium where we stayed for several days. The owners are different so prices can also vary. In principle, there are simple rooms or bungalows in the area but mass housing is only available in Ao Nang.
How to Find the Beach
The beach is 8.7 miles (14 kilometres) from Ao Nang and the easiest way to get there is by taxi or tuk-tuk. If you have transport, you can go independently. Drive along the road along Ao Nang promenade towards Nopparat Thara beach. Then the road runs along Nopparat Thara beach and turns away from the sea inland, to the right.
After a few minutes’ drive on this road there will be a sign to Klong Muang – to the left. Then there are several more signs; at the end, before Klong Muang beach, there will be another sign to the right – to Tubkaek beach. But you go straight ahead and in a couple of minutes you’ll be there. The whole journey from Ao Nang to Klong Muang usually takes just over 15 minutes.
