Klong Muang is a quiet, secluded beach without much infrastructure, located at a distance from Ao Nang. There is a small village nearby, but it offers very little in terms of amenities. For a pharmacy or bank, you’ll need to head to Ao Nang. In fact, you’ll likely need to travel there for most things.
However, there are several high-end beach resorts here, catering mainly to retirees and families with children. The sea is shallow, making it very convenient for kids to swim.
Beach Overview
The beach is divided into two parts—southern and northern—with a small island located just off the shore in the middle. The beach ends with a pier on the northwest side, beyond which lies Tab Kaek Beach. The southern part of Klong Muang is completely deserted.
Swimming Conditions
The sand on the beach is light with a yellowish hue. The entry into the sea is very gradual, with shallow waters extending several dozen meters from the shore before reaching deeper water. Additionally, the beach is known for significant tides, during which the water recedes far into the sea, revealing stones on the seabed, ranging from small pebbles to large boulders.
These stones are scattered across the beach but are not sharp and are partially buried in the sand, so they don’t pose a danger while swimming. You can also walk along the shore to find areas where the sea entry is almost stone-free.
Overall, the beach is very convenient for children to swim. The water and sand here are clean. Since several upscale resorts are located on the beach, it is well-maintained, and trash is regularly collected.
Sunbeds and Shade
There are palm trees, broad-leaved tropical trees, and a strip of tall casuarinas along the beach. These trees resemble conifers and provide good shade during the day. The beach lacks infrastructure, with only a couple of beach cafés featuring bamboo chairs under the trees.
Since there are no sunbeds with umbrellas for rent, visitors will need to rely on the natural shade provided by the trees. Guests of the beach hotels, of course, can sunbathe on the hotel sunbeds with umbrellas, usually set a little further back from the beach.

Amenities
There is no nightlife on the beach, nor much infrastructure. There are only a couple of small shops, a few beach cafés, and a few travel agencies and massage parlors. One of the most pleasant spots on the beach is the small Sunset Bar.
That said, resorts in Thailand are developing rapidly, so it’s possible that the beach will soon feature the standard tourist infrastructure with a full range of entertainment options. However, at that point, the area may lose its charm as a quiet, secluded village beach. There are bike rentals and an ATM available.
Accommodation
Some of the upscale resorts on the beach include:
- Sea Sun Bungalows 2
- Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort – Sha Extra Plus 5
- Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & SPA Resort 5
- Bliss Resort Krabi 3
However, I wouldn’t recommend staying on the right side of the beach. In my opinion, the beach quality is lower there, and there’s a road running along the beach where cars drive by, kicking up dust. The left side of the beach, on the other hand, is completely quiet and peaceful, which is precisely why people come here.
It’s tough to find long-term rentals here, with very few options available. There is literally one condominium where we stayed for a few days. The owners vary, so the prices can differ as well. In general, there are simple rooms or small houses in the surrounding area, but most accommodation options are concentrated in Ao Nang.
How to Find the Beach
Klong Muang Beach is located 8.7 miles (14 km) from Ao Nang, and the easiest way to get there is by taxi or tuk-tuk. If you have your own transport, you can drive there yourself. Head along the road that runs along Ao Nang’s waterfront towards Nopparat Thara Beach. The road continues along Nopparat Thara Beach and then turns inland to the right.
After a few minutes on this road, you’ll see a sign for Klong Muang—turn left there. There are a few more signs along the way, and at the end, before Klong Muang Beach, there will be another sign pointing right towards Tubkaek Beach. But keep going straight, and in a couple of minutes, you’ll reach your destination. The drive from Ao Nang to Klong Muang typically takes just over 15 minutes.
