Samrong Bay Beach: A Secluded Beach with Shallow Waters

Samrong Bay, located at the northern tip of Koh Samui, is home to the serene Samrong Beach. This beach spans around 230 yards (210 meters) from one cliff to the other. The sandy shore maintains a consistent width of about 22 yards (20 meters).
The sand at Samrong Bay is a fine mix of coarser golden grains, similar to the texture at Lipa Noi Beach. Near the waterline, the sand is compacted by waves, almost as hard as a marble slab, making it challenging to walk on the dry, coarse areas.
The seabed is a mix of mud, corals, and large boulders. Towards the northern edge, you’ll find more corals and rocky underwater obstacles. The Bay Samui hotel manages the beach, keeping Samrong clean and tidy by regularly collecting trash and smoothing out the sand.
Thanks to its secluded location, Samrong Beach is never crowded, even during peak season. Only a few tourists occasionally ask to visit the beach. If you’re interested in exploring more, check out my brief guide to all the beaches on Samui.
Swimming
During low tide, the sea recedes about 5-7 yards (4.5-6.5 meters), slightly changing the beach’s appearance and making swimming a bit different.
The water depth is similar to that at Lipa Noi; you need to wade about 55 yards (50 meters) over a coral seabed to reach chest-deep water. Waves can form with strong winds, and the sea can get especially rough during the rainy season.
Sunbeds and Shade
There isn’t much natural shade on the beach. The main source of shade comes from beach umbrellas placed along the sunbeds, but keep in mind there are no sunbeds available for rent. If you bring your own umbrella, it might be challenging to secure it in the compacted sand.

Samrong Beach offers kayak and jet ski rentals, and there’s even a volleyball net for those who like to stay active. The nearest shop is about half a kilometer away, with a water machine close by. The closest convenience store, a 7-Eleven, is nearly a kilometer away, near the intersection with Road 4171.
On the way to the main road, you’ll find laundries, water machines, and Thai cafes. Major supermarkets are about 9-10 kilometers (5.5-6 miles) away, which is a twenty-minute drive if traffic is light.
For those staying in the Samrong area, nearby attractions include the Plai Laem Sor Temple and Big Buddha, both about a ten-minute drive from the beach.
Samui Airport is located five kilometers (3 miles) from Samrong. Fortunately, the planes aren’t audible from the beach, so there’s no disturbance from this proximity, and the taxi fare to the airport is the best on the island.
Accommodation
The Bay Samui hotel is located directly on the beach. On the cliffs at the northern edge of Samrong, you’ll find the bungalows of Idyllic Samui, and further along is Six Senses Samui.
The southern end of the beach is currently under construction. Within a two-kilometer (1.2 miles) radius of The Bay Samui, there are several private resorts and condominiums.
At present, this area has more jungle than buildings. A new road is being constructed in the mountains, which will soon lead to further development.

The easiest way to get there is to navigate to Samui Bayside Luxury Villas. This will save you from the confusion of trying to follow verbal directions with numerous turns and intersections. Once you reach the villas, you can easily find your way to the beach.
Beautiful, small-scale, luxurious resort. Well and fully equipped villas with private swimming pool. Breakfast, trips, massages, taxis, rental car, everything can be arranged. Friendly hosts and staff, cleaning is done daily. Resort has a private path to a clean beach and clear sea. Kayaks available. For some variety in restaurants you have to travel a bit.
We had a lovely stay here. The location is stunning. The resort is on a beautiful private beach that was almost empty. There v small choice of restaurants ranging from high end at the six sense hotel or more rustic Reggae bar near by which actually served amazing food at great prices. And if you don’t fancy dining out then the hotel can book you take away meals which were good. There’s a local shop with a limited range of stock but if you need anything just ask them and they can get it in for you. Also, the hotel got us a few things that we asked for too.The staff were fantastic and especially Volker the manager a really friendly person who made sure we were always happy with everything.Good clean rooms. We would like to thank Idyllic’s for the most amazing vacation ever! The location is as the name states “Idyllic”, peaceful and serene. The resort is beautifully maintained and has everything you could need for a perfect stay. The services were top class and affordable. Make sure you include breakfast. It is delivered to your villa in the morning and is outstanding. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make your stay nothing but perfect. A final special thank you to Volker who went above and beyond to help arrange activities, provide recommendations and provide lots of advise and great chats. It was simply a fantastic time at this resort. The beach/bay is beautiful and unforgettable. The employees are all very nice and hard working, every single request was implemented immediately. Our villa was cleaned daily. The breakfast was very tasty.
Love this hotel! Huge spacious and clean. We booked 2 villas, 10 bedrooms for 19 pax. They are very nice to upgrade one villa for 3bd to 4bd and give us adjacent villas, where the elderly, teens and children had a great time. Daily room service. Breakfast is a spread. Massages are reasonably priced and everyone loves the massages. Bbq package had a lot of food. They also helped us to book lunch and dinner at restaurants to cater to our 19 pax group. I don't advise. An obnoxious woman at reception. A dirty beach without shade. Rocks everywhere. nothing around the residence. You should always take a taxi. In short...not worth its stars.
Our recent stay at Idyllic with a group of four adults and two children was nothing short of wonderful. We rented a house with a pool, and it lived up to every expectation. But what truly made our stay exceptional was the service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, maintaining the house impeccably clean and being incredibly accommodating with every request.The owner of the hotel deserves a special mention for his hospitality. He was not only pleasant but also extremely helpful, answering all our queries and even providing transportation to Fisherman Village at a cost no higher than a taxi fare. This level of service, combined with the convenience of the location near the beach, added to the idyllic nature of our vacation.A useful tip for future guests is regarding the layout of the accommodation, which includes a larger and a smaller house. The smaller house comprises two bedrooms, while the larger one has a single bedroom. This setup might not be immediately clear from the online pictures but worked perfectly for our group, allowing for privacy and comfort across both houses.Additionally, the proximity to the beach was a major plus for us, enhancing our holiday experience. We also appreciated the nearby laundry service, which offered very reasonable rates.In conclusion, our stay at Idyllic was memorable for all the right reasons. The 3 bedroom villa was lovely and super clean. The pool and garden are great areas and villa is well equipped. The location is amazing with a secluded private beach. The staff are friendly and helpful and provide a useful shuttle bus as you are located away from a town. Overall we had an amazing stay and would highly recommend Idyllic.
