Thongsai Bay: Exclusive Beach of the Thong Sai Bay Hotel

Thongson Bay is a hundred meters of stunning, tranquil beauty. Located on the northern part of Samui and facing east, the beach is flanked by enormous rocks and is a private beach of the Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui.

Beach Overview

The stretch of sand on Thongsai Beach is about 130 feet (40 meters) wide and remains consistent along its length. The sand is coarse, light yellow, and moderately loose. The hotel staff ensures cleanliness by picking up litter and smoothing the sand every morning.

The beach is not crowded, mostly frequented by hotel guests. Visitors can come independently, and the hotel even provides golf carts for a comfortable ride to the water.

However, beach equipment is reserved exclusively for hotel guests. If you’re interested in other places, check out my brief overview of all Samui beaches to help you choose the perfect spot.

Swimming

The sea at Thongsai is deep, very comfortable for entry, but slightly risky for solo swimming as the depth increases almost immediately within 10-13 feet (3-4 meters). The seabed is made of the same sand as the beach, with underwater rocks closer to the edges. It’s not suitable for children. Waves are constant due to the depth.

Sunbeds and Shade

As mentioned, this is an upscale hotel, everything is very civilized and serious. The administration is accordingly formal, and the guests stroll around in white polo shirts with a noble dreaminess in their eyes. It’s clear that these are affluent individuals, so their comfort is guarded zealously.

Outsiders are not particularly welcomed. They’ll show you the beach, even allow you to stay, but will promptly inform you that the beach, restaurant, and pool are for hotel guests only.

Thus, there are two options for relaxing at Thongsai: endure the heat on the empty beach or bring your own umbrella and defy the system. There is no natural shade at Thongsai.

Amenities

The area around Thongsai Beach is very secluded. There are mountains to the right, left, and behind. Everything you need can be found at the hotel. If you rent a house hidden behind Thongsai Road, all the conveniences of civilization are just a kilometer away on Chong Mon, along road 4171.

This section of the road through Chong Mon is similar to the one-way road on Lamai. Here you’ll find mini-markets, tourist shops, travel agencies, equipment rentals, bottled gas stations, cafes, restaurants, laundries, massage parlors, and a market. There are also banks, ATMs, bars, workshops, and more.

In the evenings, this area becomes a pedestrian street, and on Wednesdays, night markets take place. These markets are set up only in the busiest parts of the island: Maenam, Bo Phut, Chong Mon, Chaweng, and Lamai. Chong Mon has excellent infrastructure and provides everything necessary for a full vacation and living.

Nearby attractions for those staying around Thongsai include:

  • Plai Laem Sor Temple
  • Wan Nuam Naran Temple
  • Big Buddha

The Samui Airport is located five kilometers from Thongsai. You won’t hear planes on the beach, so there’s no discomfort from this proximity. Planes usually approach or take off over the beaches of Bang Rak and Chaweng.

However, taxi fares to the airport are reasonable. There’s only a restaurant on the beach, and it’s exclusive to hotel guests.

Accommodation

There is only one hotel on Thongsai Beach: the Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui with rates starting at $300-400 per night.

Within a two-kilometer radius from the beach, there are several resorts with rental homes and a few major construction projects, so there are houses available. For example, Samui Grove Villas.

Finding accommodation here is possible, and the area is one of the best on the island, considering the proximity to Chong Mon’s infrastructure. However, for daily swimming, you might prefer a nearby beach with fewer complications, like Thongson or Chong Mon.

If you want to book a hotel in advance or look for accommodation on other beaches, check out my selection of the best hotels on Samui with good ratings and reviews.

How to Find the Beach

You can find Thongsai by following signs to the hotel. Travel along road 4171 towards Chong Mon. After passing Big Buddha, be on the lookout for a long curve starting about 300 meters ahead. Before entering the curve, turn left.

This is a T-intersection in an open area without buildings or trees, which is rare on the island. From there, follow the signs to the hotel.

Our honeymoon stay at this hotel was nothing short of spectacular! The service truly exceeded five stars; from the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. Every staff member went above and beyond, always with a smile, and nothing was ever too much trouble. The breakfasts were simply beyond amazing, and the lady who made fresh juices in the mornings became a highlight of our stay. Her joyful spirit and delicious "happy juice" ensured we started each day with a smile. IThe beaches and amenities are stunning—with breathtaking views. The hotel also offers a range of daily activities and events, like yoga sessions, morning walks, complimentary kayak and SUP boarding, and even under-the-stars movie nights. There’s always something to do, but you’ll also find plenty of space to just relax and unwind.Upon arrival, we were welcomed with handmade cutout letters on our bed spelling out "Happy Honeymoon," along with a bottle of champagne and a fruit bowl. Every evening, we were treated to a special sweet snack in our room, with the turn-down service already thoughtfully completed. These small gestures made us feel so special.Every interaction with the staff was a delight, and there was always someone ready to assist with anything we needed. It’s rare to find such a high level of personalized service, and we couldn’t be more grateful. This was the perfect place for our honeymoon, and we cannot recommend it highly enough!

The hotel is located on a mountain with a private bay. The staff is very friendly, courteous and helpful. The breakfast is also very good, we particularly liked the smoothie bar, which prepares fresh smoothies and juices upon request. There is also a bar that prepares coffee or tea varieties such as Ice Matcha as desired. We also liked that delicious homemade pastries as well as coffee and tea were available both in the room and in the lobby. In addition to the staff, the hotel manager is also very friendly and everyone tries to fulfill the guest's every wish.

The hotel is far from everything and only one shuttle per day to reach the nearest small town; it costs between 600 and 800 baths to go out.If you don't have one of the rooms with a private pool this hotel is of no interest. The breakfast is very good but the room is not air-conditioned. The communal swimming pool needs a major renovation. The beach is far from heavenly. The staff is very niceIn conclusion, this hotel is far from a 5 star L with the exception of the pool villa suite rooms which are beautiful but the bed is not very comfortable and the accessories in the bathroom are not exceptional for this category of hotel .There are better 5 star L hotels on the island

The hotel offers a beautiful beach, private bay, and breathtaking views on overall lovely grounds. Rooms are spacious and clean, and the free water sports equipment is a nice perk. However, the restaurants and services such as massages are overpriced. I recommend heading out. We couldn't help but feel that the property could be in a touch better shape, with some aging infrastructure in need of maintenance. The lovely reception area, overlooking the bay, is wasted space that could be a great bar. While the staff is friendly, they only offer superficial recommendations about the area.

My stay was amazing. The rooms were great. Beach was beautiful and serene. Service was exceptional. Breakfast was great. Overall, couldn't recommend this place more!Only potential caveat is that accessibility to rest of the island is limited. But if you are looking to just stay in the resort for the whole stay, this won't be a big issue.

I stayed 3 nights in this hotel, it’s very Good hotel, spacious and clean rooms, ideal for those who want to burn calories, as entering and exiting the room requires walking and climbing stairs, the beach is private and very quiet, but you should wear something on your feet because the sea sand is hurt to walk on, there are no places around the hotel to go, but the hotel provides transportation at reasonable prices

we spent part of our honeymoon in this hotel. we stayed in a room with a bath and a beautiful view of the sea and the pool area. the hotel staff was very helpful and attentive to us. the girl with glasses at the reception, the girl serving in the restaurant in the evening and the girl with smoothies and the manager Manuel won our hearts. the hotel has very tasty dishes. we tried thai cuisine on the island, but each time we returned to the hotel, as it was the most delicious here. thank you for a good impression and we wish you prosperity and wonderful clients!

My wife and I chose to spend our anniversary at this hotel, and looking back, I am extremely glad we made this choice. The variety of free water activities, the friendly and patient staff, and the simple yet delicious meals left an incredibly deep impression on me. From start to finish, there was hardly anything to complain about. We stayed for two nights in different types of rooms. The second night was in a pool villa, but the initial room we were assigned didn’t have the view shown in the website photos. My wife asked if we could change rooms, and to our surprise, the staff quickly confirmed and upgraded us to a sea view room with the most stunning view we’ve ever experienced. I struggle to find words to describe how beautiful the scenery was. My wife and I both agree that we will definitely return, perhaps for a week or even a month next time. If you want to quietly enjoy the beach, sea view, and private pool, choosing this place will not disappoint you.

However, you can still reach some good restaurants and shops in 10 minutes on foot.Rooms are very clean and very stylishly decorated.Particularly noteworthy is the service throughout the entire complex. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast selection is huge and the quality is excellent. We will definitely come back!

The best holiday of my 50 years, without question!I’ve spent the last 30 years travelling with work and staying in lovely hotels. This is by far the best I have stayed in for a variety of reasons. Our stay at Garrya Tongsai Bay in Koh Samui was nothing short of spectacular. The property is set on a pristine private bay, provided an unparalleled blend of luxury, serenity, and impeccable service that made our vacation truly unforgettable. This slice of paradise is perfectly situated on a secluded beach, offering awesome views of the crystal-clear warm waters and lush vegetation. The service at Garrya Tongsai Bay is truly world-class. From the moment we arrived, the staff were amazingly warm, welcoming, and attentive to our every need. Their commitment to ensuring our comfort and satisfaction was evident throughout our stay. Special requests were handled with grace and efficiency, making us feel like valued guests. The GM and hotel manager could not have been more wonderful and set the tone for all the staff to be amazing and provide world class service. In conclusion, this sensational property is the epitome of luxury and tranquility in Koh Samui. Its stunning location, beautiful rooms, exquisite dining, and outstanding service combined to make the most perfect holiday. I highly recommend this resort and look forward to returning in the very near future.

It was a really great vacation. The room condition was excellent, and the staff's service was very good. It seems that not only Koreans but also Asians are less well-known as a resort that is good for them, to the point where we are unique. Recommended if you want to enjoy a quiet vacation. The pool villa was very spacious and moderately deep. Tankyupotongsai.

I asked them to borrow me a mango peeling sharp knife to be delivered to my room and a bigger plate to serve my fruits as i am in an exotic location and this is one of the best things to enjoy on your sea view terrace. They refused to help even when i told them i will put this into a review. I think this says it all aboht customer care. 5 star? Must be joking. The property is very very old, more than 30 years and not updated. The location is amazing and it could easily be the top hotel it promotes to be. The bay and the sea there are nice but the beach is not sand it is pebbles this i did not enjoy.

We had an incredible honeymoon experience at the Garrya. The service went above and beyond, the food was delicious, and the views incredible. The team gave us a beautiful secluded villa for our honeymoon with the best ocean views. It was a bit of a walk away but they always offered golf carts to drive there, and it was nice to get some steps in going back and forth! The room was comfy and spacious with an outdoor bathtub too. The setting does feel like youre in a jungle - we liked it, but maybe some guests would prefer a less naturey stay (just something to be aware of).The restaurant and staff have to get a shout out. They had amazing specials everyday, from chicken satay wraps to a grilled beef salad that was out of this world. The chef even emailed us a recipe when we asked what was in it! And the lady at the breakfast who made fresh juice always made my day with her kindness and smile. We spent most of our time here relaxing at the pool. We loved that the pool had shady spots to protect us from the sun. The staff was so fast to set up our pool chairs for us and bring us ice cold water as soon as we sat down. Such wonderful service! The only small complaints are that the gym was a bit small, and we wish the breakfast space had air conditioning. But overall we had a truly 5 star stay, and we hope to come back someday!

Amazing Resort, But Muslims Take NoteMy partner and I recently stayed at Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui, and overall, our experience was fantastic. The resort is lovely and perfect for both couples and families. The staff are truly excellent, providing outstanding service and always going the extra mile to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The resort itself is very quiet and features two beautiful pools (one of which is adults-only), a private beach, a pool table, and tennis courts. The beach, however, does not have fine sand – just something to be aware of. Additionally, the resort is not within walking distance to other attractions, so be prepared to take a lot of cabs if you want to explore the island. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, but there was one specific incident that put a damper on our experience. As Muslims who do not eat pork, we chose this high-end resort because they assured us that all meat would be halal and that any pork products would be clearly marked for us to avoid.Every day, we received jars of different snacks, including my favorite biscuits. Five days into our stay, a friendly maid came to clean our room and replenished the biscuits. Out of curiosity, I asked if I could take a picture of the box to try and find them to take home with me. To my dismay, the packaging stated they were "rice crackers with pork floss." I instantly felt sick. The next morning, I was extra cautious at breakfast and noticed that the staff were using the same tongs for bacon and hash browns. I immediately relayed this to the staff and emailed the hotel manager and general manager. The hotel manager and Tang, another onsite manager, were excellent in handling the situation. They reassured me that the biscuits did not contain pork and explained that the maid had been using her own container, which should not have happened. While I appreciated their efforts, the incident still greatly concerned me.To make amends, the staff went above and beyond, treating us to a meal and ensuring our needs were met for the remainder of our stay. The hotel manager assured me that they would review and train their staff to prevent such issues from occurring in the future.Despite this incident, Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui is a wonderful resort with much to offer. The service, amenities, and overall atmosphere are top-notch. However, I would advise Muslim guests to be extra vigilant about food and to communicate their dietary needs clearly with the staff.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and couldn’t be more happy with the whole experience. Food was amazing. Staff were really friendly and attentive. If you appreciate a hotel environment that is preserved within the natural landscape, then you will enjoy staying here. If you have reasonable fitness and don’t mind walking a very short distance, then the sea view rooms up on the hill are incredible. If you don’t like walking, then rooms closer to the walkways where they can drop you off in front with their buggy is better. We had a room way up and separated from others and it was such a wonderful experience. Posting photos of the sunrises and moon rises from our balcony.

We're absolutely touched by the hotel! Not only they have the top notch service but also have stunning views and facilities. The staff here is always smiling and go above and beyond for anything you need. I don't know how people leave a negative review. It's our last day and we feel so sad to leave. I love everything you guys do, and thanks to every single staff here to make it perfect for us!Especially the juice lady!If you're reading this review and trying to find a hotel still, don't waste your time. Just book with them. I guarantee you won't regret!
