Wong Amat Beach, also known as Naklua Beach, is the longest stretch of sand in the Naklua area, located in North Pattaya. This area is notably cleaner, quieter, and greener than the bustling center of Pattaya, yet it’s still close enough for easy access to shops and attractions.
One downside to Wong Amat Beach is the limited natural shade and the scarcity of sunbeds for rent. A pedestrian walkway runs along the beach, with expensive high-rise hotels providing sunbeds on the sand for their guests. During low tide, the beach becomes quite wide and shallow, but at high tide, it’s a narrow strip of sand leading quickly into waist-deep water, which can often be rough.
At the southern end of the beach, near a hotel, the beach curves into a cape with rocky outcrops and large boulders in the water. This part of the beach offers more natural shade from trees, along with rentable sunbeds and loungers under umbrellas. It’s a more intimate area, ideal for relaxed contemplation.
The water at Wong Amat Beach isn’t the clearest, often containing debris like plastic bags and having a somewhat murky appearance. Nonetheless, it’s still considered one of the cleaner beaches in Pattaya.
Beach Overview
Wong Amat Beach is about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) long, including the cape at the southern end, which separates it from Pattaya Beach in the city center. The northern part of Wong Amat, starting near a hotel, is less maintained and mostly deserted.
This area is essentially a stretch of littered sand between the sea and hotel fences, with rocky patches in the water. The central part of Wong Amat Beach is the cleanest and has some basic infrastructure.
Near the same hotel, where the beach curves into a cape with sandy spits and large boulders in the water, you’ll find a few beach cafes and bars. Boats are often moored nearby, and the area has a small, non-swimming section with rocks, shells, and dirt in the water.
Further towards Pattaya’s city center, the cape features littered, deserted sections, rocks, and small strips of sand where you can swim. In the middle of the cape is another large hotel.
The part of the beach adjoining this hotel is carefully cleaned, but the water and surrounding areas still contain sharp rocks and shells. The cape ends at a large luxury hotel, whose grounds mark the boundary between Naklua and the central Pattaya seafront.
The beach is about 20 meters (65 feet) wide on average, though this varies depending on the tides. In the center of the beach, under the trees along the pedestrian walkway, there’s a small market selling fruits, tourist goods, and offering massages, braiding services, etc.
Beach vendors are especially numerous during the peak season, when the beach becomes crowded and sometimes feels almost cramped.
Wong Amat Beach is popular among Russian tourists, with nearby Naklua streets featuring numerous signs in Russian. There’s even a nearby Orthodox church, St. Nicholas Church.
Swimming Conditions
The best areas for swimming are in the middle and southern parts of the beach. In the center, the shore slopes steeply into the water, and during high tide, the entry is abrupt, with the water reaching waist height almost immediately. At low tide, the water remains shallow, below knee level, for quite a distance.
As a result, during high tide, only a few meters of beach remain between the water and the walkway, while at low tide, there’s a wide strip of sand, perfect for sitting and strolling.
The water is somewhat murky, with a slightly muddy bottom, more noticeable during low tide. The sand is yellow and fine, becoming lighter on the sandy spits between large boulders. Waves are common, especially near the cape, where the water contains sharp rocks, so caution is advised when entering and swimming.
Sunbeds and Shade
In the center of the beach, most of the sunbeds are provided by the hotels, so finding one to rent can be challenging. The vegetation is also not very dense or continuous.
There are trees, but they offer limited shade during the day. The best times to visit are in the morning and evening, particularly at sunset. The northern part of the beach has no amenities—no shade, no sunbeds, and no infrastructure.
On the southern edge, near the cape, where there are rocks, you’ll find more vegetation and sunbeds with umbrellas available for rent. This is a good spot to escape the scorching midday sun.

Amenities
In this area, right on the shore, you’ll find the Sanctuary of Truth, about a kilometer from the northern end of Wong Amat Beach. This is a major Pattaya attraction. There are many shops in the Naklua area, especially along the alleys and the main Naklua Road.
The alleys are small streets between the beach and Naklua Road, which runs parallel to the coastline. In this area, between the main road and the large hotel complexes along the beach, you’ll find convenience stores, cafes, laundromats, pharmacies, fruit stands, and more.
The Naklua area, especially between the 16th and 22nd alleys, is well-maintained, with little trash or dust. Empty lots are generally fenced off and overgrown in an orderly manner. On the second road, which runs behind the large hotels and condos, you’ll find more convenience stores.
The main road features additional cafes and shops. Signs in Russian are common here, advertising pharmacies, travel agencies, and souvenir shops.
On the beach itself, cafes and bars are concentrated to the left of the 18th alley. There’s also a volleyball court on the sand. Although this area is close to the city center and North Pattaya Road, all the central attractions are easily accessible from Naklua.
Accommodation
Most of the beachfront is lined with expensive high-rise hotels and condos. There’s also a small bungalow-style hotel near a popular restaurant. Rental homes, both short-term and long-term, are plentiful in the Naklua area, especially closer to the fish market and further inland from the main road, but these are generally far from the sea.
How to Find the Beach
The road along Pattaya Beach (Beach Road) veers away from the sea after passing a large hotel on the right (when heading north) and leads to a roundabout with a dolphin fountain in the center. Several roads converge here.
To the right of Beach Road is Second Beach Road, followed counterclockwise by North Road, which leads to Sukhumvit Road. Naklua Road runs parallel to the coast and eventually reaches the fish market, beyond which the area becomes less developed.
From Naklua Road, several alleys lead to the beach, though they can be confusing and often end in dead ends. However, in some places, they provide access to the beach.
The first descent to the beach, in the form of a multi-flight staircase, is at the end of the 22nd alley. The 18th alley leads to a seafood restaurant and a hotel at the southern end of Wong Amat. The 16th alley leads to a narrow passage between two fences, which opens directly onto the beach.
You can park your vehicle at these entrances—there’s not much space, but you can usually find a spot, especially for motorbikes.
