Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi is the charming counterpart to its neighbor, Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai, nestled on the northwestern coast of Koh Phangan. This small, picturesque beach offers deep, clear waters and a tranquil atmosphere, far removed from the main tourist hubs. It’s the kind of place that instantly draws you in, leaving you in awe.
While the beach maintains a laid-back vibe, it still provides solid tourist infrastructure. Located at the end of a beautiful new road that winds through the island’s mountainous interior, Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi offers plenty of accommodation options, with all the essentials close by—though everything here is on a smaller, more intimate scale, perfect for a laid-back getaway.
From here, you can also catch one of the cheapest boat rides (200 baht per person) to Bottle Beach, a secluded paradise for introverts.
Beach Overview
Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi stretches for 600 meters along a bay framed by steep cliffs and clusters of boulders. You can’t reach this beach by walking along the coast from another; the only way is by road.
Because of this, Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi is best suited for either a longer stay or a one-time visit for swimming. Daily trips here can be difficult and even risky.
On the left, near Pak Chong Cape, you’ll find the luxurious Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & SPA 5, while to the right, atop Klang Cape, which separates the twin beaches, is the Panviman Resort Koh Phangan. The rocks beneath Panviman are separated from the rest of the beach by a small stream that flows even in the dry season.
The beach itself is quite wide, averaging 15 meters (50 feet) at high tide, and expanding to 30–40 meters (100–130 feet) of soft, coarse, golden sand during low tide.
Swimming
After all the shallow, flat beaches that stretch endlessly along the west coast, Thong Nai Pan Noi feels like a hidden gem. It’s the kind of place that feels perfect for a peaceful swim.
Despite its small size and the fact that the shoreline is divided among several resorts that meticulously groom it every morning, Thong Nai Pan Noi offers the perfect beach experience. With a clean shore, consistent width, smooth sandy entry into the water, and shoulder-deep water just 10 meters (33 feet) from the beach, it’s hard to imagine a more ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.
Sunbeds and Shade
To fully enjoy the beach, you’ll want a sunbed in the shade. Luckily, Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi has plenty of them—everywhere. Most are owned by the resorts, but ordering a cocktail in exchange for the privilege of relaxing in comfort is always an option. Shade on the beach mostly comes from the many trees scattered around.
Since Thong Nai Pan Noi is on the eastern coast, the hot morning sun is balanced by increasing shade in the afternoon. This is especially great during low tide, as the receding water leaves the shade close to the sea, keeping you cool throughout the day.

Amenities
The tourist infrastructure on this small beach is compact and convenient. Essentially, everything you need is within 200 meters of the shoreline, just behind the first row of resorts.
In addition to two mini-marts, the streets of Thong Nai Pan Noi are lined with travel agencies, rental services, laundries, cafés, bars, restaurants, and massage parlors. You’ll also find several ATMs from different banks and even public phone booths. In short, everything you might need for a comfortable two-week stay is right here.
Accommodation
Along the shoreline of Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi, there are about 15 hotels, resorts, and guesthouses.
Some of the standout options, in addition to those previously mentioned, include:
- Buri Rasa Koh Phangan 4
- Sandee Bungalows 2
- Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas 5
- Thongtapan Resort 3
The Santhiya Koh Phangan Resort & SPA 5 and Panviman Resort Koh Phangan 4 are located on elevated ground and cliffs. While this can make walks to the beach a bit inconvenient, these spots offer breathtaking views of the bay and the eastern horizon from the rooms.
All beachfront hotels at Thong Nai Pan Noi boast high guest ratings. When thousands of travelers give rave reviews and endless praise, it definitely means something.
Personally, I was quite taken by Panviman Resort, despite the nearby stream. I explored the property, read reviews, and looked at photos on booking sites. It’s now on my list for future trips. Everything is so close there that the stream is hardly an issue!
How to Find the Beach
You’ll need either a taxi or a good GPS for this trip. From Thong Sala, head right along the southern coast until you reach the turnoff for the new road. It’s marked by signs, but navigating the maze of Phangan’s twists and turns can be tricky. I’ve marked the necessary turn on the map, after which you’ll drive along a new, well-maintained road.
However, be aware that this road is full of sharp turns and elevation changes, so be cautious, especially where sand can gather on the curves.
It’s a long ride—passing deer statues, a roundabout, and a monument with spheres—until you reach the turn onto the concrete road to Thong Nai Pan Noi (also marked on the map). Drive all the way to the Panviman Hotel’s gate, then turn left and go straight to the end, where you’ll find a large parking lot shaded by trees.
